human flow AMALTHEA

Human beings are a constantly recurring theme in Manfred Hellweger’s work. 
 
For the sculpture „human flow AMALTHEA“, Manfred Hellweger is using wooden strips that differ in thickness and length to represent a human being in a stylized way. The strips are connected to one another through precise, planned scheme in such a way, that they run out irregularly towards the bottom and thus create a flowing dynamic. 
Two different types of wood are combined in this sculpture, limewood and larchwood.
 
 
"human flow" was derived from the aphorism of the Greek natural philosopher Heraklit of Ephesus: "Pantha rhei" - everything flows. 
Just as the water in the river is always in motion, so all things, living beings and appearances in the world are always changing. Everything changes and evolves, nothing stays as it is. 
"AMALTHEA" comes from Greek mythology and is the name of one of the 79 previously known moons of Jupiter. 
 
The surface of this sculpture is finely sanded and completely natural.
